My name is Shari Jackson Monson, I currently live in western Washington with my husband Craig, our young adult son, and adorable dog Theo. Our daughter serves in government. I recently enjoyed a sabbatical trip to Utrecht and Paris (pictured here).
I am a pastor, researcher, convener of people and teams, an amateur gardener, an admirer of the arts, and I am pursuing certification as a coach.
Interim By Design serves as a hub for connecting with me as a coach.
You know how you sometimes find yourself in bewildering place and wonder what to do about it? That was me in 2016. My instinct was to hire a talented consultant to help me work with the organization’s board. Thankfully the board said no the consultant idea, but they instead agreed to hire a coach to work with me. Coaching was game-changing. I’d bring my joys and disappointments to our sessions and together we would explore what’s going on and discuss next steps for me as a leader. Since then I’ve led change in a variety of contexts, and in each instance, there was a coach alongside me. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Shout out to Beth, Sarah, Laura, Julie, and Rich. My educational background: I was educated at Seattle Pacific University (BA), Drew University (MA), Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India (post grad fellowship), and Fuller Theological Seminary (MDiv). In 2023 I completed my Doctorate of Ministry degree at Seattle University. As hoped, my DMin research project continues to offer practical guidance and relational support to pastors leading change in the church.
Presently, I serve as the Executive Presbyter & Stated Clerk for the Presbytery of Olympia. Prior to that I served as Transitional Pastor at Lacey Presbyterian Church, John Knox Presbyterian Church, West Side Presbyterian Church, Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chehalis, and for a few months led a church that is now closed.
